HomeClub Workshop

The LGMS is deeply grateful for the generosity of longtime members Tim and Dr. Diane McIntire, who have donated a building for the club's use. This donation provides a space for educational meetings focused on Earth Sciences, promoting the study of rocks, minerals, and fossils. It also includes a dedicated workshop for learning the art of  lapidary.

Tim and Diane joined the club and quickly assumed leadership roles, both serving on the board of directors. Tim also held the position of club Treasurer for several years. He was an accomplished lapidarist, painter, sculptor, writer, actor, and director, while Diane is a talented lapidarist who specializes in wire wrapping to create fine jewelry settings for polished stones.

This new building marks a significant chapter for the LGMS, impacting many future rock hounds in the Lubbock area and continuing the McIntires' legacy of generosity.

If you are interested in learning how to cut and polish rocks, this club can help with that. The tools and equipment in the workshop are for use by LGMS members exclusively. There is a $5.00 fee for each session to help with the cost of maintaining the equipment and supplies.

This shop time is also a good time for members to socialize; many come out to see what others are doing and to hang out for a little while. There is no fee if you are not working with the equipment.

For more information about the workshop, come to our regular monthly meeting on the first Tuesday of each month, 7:00 pm, at 3007 33rd street and talk to a member about what you would like to learn.
